With the tempertures hitting 60+ today about 80 miles south of Jackson, MI today, my golf partner Mark P and I decided on a short trip. We found this 1999 Ernie Schrock rolling, meandering, water and sand trap infested mixed layout, ready to test our rusty skills. With the five (5) tee selections you can choose from Black 7,237yd / 75.3 / 136 down to Yellow's at 5,107yd / 70.7 / 117 on this wonderful Par 36/36 layout. Even though there are areas where you can see houses, they are plenty far enough away from coming into play and nice to look at. There's some type of water coming into play on thirteen (13) holes and beauiful sand traps (masonary sand) everywhere. Conditions here today were top notch from tee to the small fast greens (8-9) for coming out of winter two (2) weeks ago. We decided to play the Blue's @ 3,038/3,185yds / 70.9 / 124 as there's only one (1) Par 4 over 400yds and the Par 3's maxed out at 178yds which helped hitting these smaller sized greens.
The Front 9 seemed to have more water that came into play than the Back 9, but the Back 9 had more well placed sand traps, ready and waiting on both fairway and green-side. The #5 Hpc 2 hole at 563yds is narrow and lined with traps so keep it straight. The #9 Par 5 Hpc 4 played a short 469yds (Blues) but being narrow with traps and water made it play a lot longer up hill.
Back 9 #10 starts out with a 527yds from the Blues (639yd Blacks) that throws everything at you on this slight dogleg left Hpc 1 hole. The #18 a 512yds Hpc 3 from the Blues (580yd Black) is just narrow so stay in the short grass. We never waited and it took 3.75hrs as some drives between holes are three (3) minutes. Great course and can't wait to play here this summer under more ideal conditions. I ended up shooting 42/43 w/35putts and with this being Marks first outing his 91 w/35putts wasn't bad at all. This is a must play course if you're in this area.
Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
