In the area visiting the Cherokee County Park area and drove upon this 1896 “Seasoned” nine (9) hole 2,827yd / 66.3 / 114 Par 35 tree lined track. It was originally a 18 hole layout but changed around 1935 to what is here today as the starter told us. Well being a follower of playing older tracks, I wasn’t going to pass on this course today. Starting out on the highest point of the park, you have some great views on the first five (5) holes. The holes are “side by side” but the seasoned hardwood trees protect each fairway. Starting out with a narrow straight away 525yd Par 5 is a good warmup and practice for those punch shots you’ll use later. Number 2 is a 291yd Par 4 and a 50yd wide fairway will be the normal view till #7 hole. The #3 is a 295yd Par 4 that has a deep valley to drive over, but 170 yds is all you need. Fairways are a little rough and flat lies are only found on the tee boxes. The #4 is a great 215yd Par 3 and short is good because there’s a drop off behind the green. The greens are pretty good size for an old designed course and some hidden slopes will surprise you. The #5 is a 300yd Par 4 with an severe left to right tipped fairway to the pond. Must draw ball into the hill so you have a chance of staying dry. The #6 is a 185yd Par 3 that is all carry over a pond to the green on the side of the hill. Long left is your bailout for missing because through the green is the road. (20yds away). The #7 300yd Par 4 has your 2nd shot about 30’ above your head (2-3 club more) and a ugly uphill lie. The #8 is another 210yd Par 3 but slightly downhill and stay short, not long. Finishing with a 452yd Par 5 will make you feel good and allow for a short iron 3rd shot to close with a birdie. Enjoyed my 1.5hr round ($17.50 w/cart) shooting 39 w/16 putts and my girlfriend getting some great photos of the area. Can’t believe playing here with hickory sticks in the old days.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
