Been driving by this Jerry Matthews (Michigan native) designed course since it opened in 1996 and finally got a chance to play here. Located next to highway 127 making it a easy stop to play and get back to where you were going. This is one rolling, straight forward layout with good fairway separation that allows you to focus on your shot and landing area. The mostly elevated greens are still rolling true (7-9) despite being rain soaked the last couple of days and well protected by traps for those errant shots. The cart GPS system was very accurate in showing the hole yardages and pin placement, which was very helpful to us first timers. Myself (85/33putts) playing with golfing pal Mark P (91/34putts) both struggled with sponge soaked fairways due to recent heavy rains in the lower fairways that set-up for a few fat shots. The many slight doglegs (9) added to excitement of what view the next shot was going to be and did land in the correct area. In normal Michigan golfing season, I can see why this course is heavily played for those traveling to/from northern Michigan for the conditions and pricing. We paid $29 18/cart, playing from the tips on this 3,408yd / Par 36 Front 9 and 3,211yd / Par 36 Back 9 @ 142 slope / 72.3 rating well maintained golfing layout. I look forward in returning to enjoy the more ideal conditions that this course has to offer in warmer weather (37 degrees today) and wearing more proper golfing attire. Must put this on your list of of highway golfing spots when traveling in this area.
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area
Condition of Course, Price, Pace of Play, Difficulty, Ambiance, Layout, No Houses on Course
