The Fountains is our third (3rd) course that we played of the Garland Resort 72 hole complex. We were told by the started to keep pace as there will be 720 rounds being played on the four (4) courses today. The Fountians GC has five (5) tee boxes that has the Blacks @ 6,782yds / 73.1 / 140 down to Reds @ 4,617yds / 63.4 / 117 on this rolling wooded Par 36/36 wonderful conditioned layout. When I told the Starter about how great the greens were, he said that Members volunteer to manicure different greens....Now I know how they do it. One thing for sure, that designer Ron Otto had some great land to work with in making this a Great Challenging Golf Course. It seems that all holes seem to sweep left or right with sand traps scattered to catch those strays. We played from the Whites today at 5,8721yds / 69.3 / 128 because with the wet conditions it easily played 200-300yds longer for us old guys. The Front 9 starts out with #1 being a Hcp 6 uphill 342yd (white) with the Par 4 elevated narrow 2 tiered green playing 2 clubs longer today. The #2 Par 5 at 465yds is narrow with water left-side the last 180 yds in to the very narrow green on this sweeping left on this Hcp 4 hole. The #4 is their Hcp 2 hole Par 4 playing 419-303yds on this very narrow fairway and green alike. The #7 is one sand trap infested Par 5 that has six (6) sand traps scattered along your journey 580-471yds to the very narrow elevated green. The Back 9 #10 starts out with friendly a 513-440yd Par 5 that sweeps right with water on the last 180yds to a two (2) tier green with a steep front trap. The #11 Par 3 an Hcp 7 has a long narrow, up hill, two (2) tier green that plays longer than the 133-176yds listed. The #14 Par 4 is a Hpc 3 that plays 412yds with a 100-130yd swamp carry in front of the elevated green that needs no sand traps. The #16 Par 3 plays 180-142yds and has a pond directly in front and RH trap. The #17 is their Hcp 1 Par 4 hole that plays 456-377yds being a narrow sweeping left to a very small elevated, front trap protected green. The Back 9 ends just like the Front 9 with a long (196yd) Par 3 with all water carry to the promised land. This is a great conditioned course if played from the correct tees because of the forced carries on those first and second shots. I ended up shooting 39/40 w/36putts as the course was a little drier from the Thursday evening rains that hindered scoring on Friday's scoring. Last thought......there are Fountains on every pond.
Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
Condition of Course, Food/ Bar facilities, Difficulty, Ambiance, Staff, Layout, No Houses on Course, Clubhouse
