Heading up North for the weekend and decided to play first this 1970 Bruce Matthews/1998 Jerry Matthews rolling wooded 18 hole layout. Conditions were very good today even though they are preparing for the winter months ahead. The average size sand trap protected greens, were rolling very true (8-9) and quite firm. I played from the Blues/Tips at 3,341/3,212yds / 72.6 / 129 on this Par 36/36 layout in 2hrs 20 minutes. It helps getting the first tee time with the drawback being the Dew on most of the greens. Many of the holes are slight doglegs with forced carries either off the tee or approach shots to the many elevated protected greens that challenge carries. You start right out on #1 a Hcp 3 that sweeps right to a protected elevated green 422yds away. The #4 is a 402yds downhill tee to the 100yd marker being very uphill to a Hcp 1 blind green. The two (2) Par 5's #6 @ 479yds and #9 @ 485yds seen short but fairways being narrow and winding, make you pay if you stray. The Back 9 #10 is a 237yd Par 3 with a swamp carry in front of the green. The #13 is a 379yd Hcp 2 Par 4 that limits your drive to 200yds because of a 60yd carry swamp or 150yd shot to the green. The #18 Par 5 at 500yds is a sweeping left narrow fairway to a large friendly green on this Hpc 10 hole. Ended up shooting 41/40 w/33putts on this surprisingly hidden gem, that's worth the 15 minute drive from Hwy 127.
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
