Took advantage of a warm November morning to play this 1998. The course is a Bill Newcomb layout that has a Links/Wooded challenging layout. With five (5) tee boxes from 6,973yd/74.0/144 down to 5,151yd/65.2/121 Par 36/36 the course is a stretched out great conditioned layout.

The first few holes are open so you need to practice playing in the middle because the rest of the fairways tighten right up. All greens were in great shape and well protected by sand traps and green placement. Most of the greens play better if coming up short because long is mostly big trouble. Hole #3 216yd Par 3 has a raised front that rejects any short shots, so its best to play 1 club longer. The #4 563yd Par 5 has a slight dogleg left with trouble left the last 150yds to very well protected green. Hole #9 567yd Par 5 is one finishing hole with a pond down the whole LH side and elevated green with trouble if the green is missed, anywhere but center short. I didn't get a chance to play the Back 9 because it was being sprayed and not ready for play until Noon. I slipped back onto the Front 9 and played seven (7) more holes but viewing the Back 9, it looked gorgeous. I ended up shooting 38/17putts my first round playing a mix of Blue/White tee selections.

I'm looking forward to returning in the spring and playing the complete layout, one more time.

It took three (3) years but I finally got back here to play the complete eighteen (18) holes and it was worth it. Got a $35 18/cart each for the Labor Day special for myself and three (3) boys, plus getting the first tee time with a cool 60 degree morning. We decided to play the Whites (6,218 / 70.5 / 135) because of the heavy rain last night and basically no roll, was a good choice. Other than the wet conditions throughout, it was in great shape and the difficult to read greens, were rolling a smooth 9-10. The Front 9 reads the same as my earlier post with #4 Par 5 at 526yds Hcp 5 playing "tee shot tuff" as anything towards the right-side feeds the O.B. The Back 9 #10 starts right out with a narrow driving 378yd Par 4 that is just plain......Tight. The #11 Hcp 2 is much of the same tightness at 372yds, but with a better protected raised green with three (3) traps to add to your misery. The #13 at 529yds Par 5 just needs to stay in the middle at all cost because any stray shots will make recovery........almost impossible. The #16 Par 5 at 474yds may be short in yards BUT that narrow winding fairway will challenge your target golf shots. Finishing on a narrow 358yd Par 4 with fairway sand traps and water left front of the green is no sure bet on Par here. We had eighteen (18) O.B's between us four (4) as the Back 9 accounted for eleven (11) of those. The Back 9 is Tight !!!!!! My shooting 93 w/38putts and 5 O.B's shows needed improvement on tee club selection and reading undulating putts. This course stretches from 6,973yds / 74.0 / 144 down to 5,151yds / 65.2 / 121 on this great 1998 William Newcomb layout you must play.
