This is our 3rd of the five (5) courses here we are playing, but doing as a 4 man scramble. This Schuss Mountian GC has the longest tees of the five (5) courses at Blues @ 7,013yd / 73.5 / 130 down to Reds @ 5,370 / 65.4 / 116 on this wooded/hilly Par 36/36 layout. Conditions here today were topshelf from the four (4) tee boxes to large undulating greens rolling at 9-10. Sand traps are fluffed daily so the ball settles down very easily or fried eggs on those missed wedge shots. Of the ten (10) Par 4's, only four (4) of them are straightaway and the rest......Doglegs. With the wooded fairway borders, taking short cuts are very riskly with narrow landing areas. Knowing distances to landing areas/traps from your tee box selection is strongly advised. With no GPS on the carts you'll need more than the great hole discription on your scorecard. We played from the Whites @ 6,463yd / 70.9 / 126 and struggled hitting the greens in the right location as we had MANY missed sliding/speed putts on these large trickly hillside greens. Front 9 seemed a little more open and flatter than the narrow/hilly Back 9. We ended up shooting -9 because hitting the large greens was the easy part, putting was the rest of the story. I would have like to play this on my own ball, but moving up to the Sliver's @ 5,611yds / 66.9 / 119 would be my 1st choice and maybe some Whites also. This course is a very demanding layout if played from the wrong tees.
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area
