Decided to start playing "Home Grown" local courses within 1 hr of home, when I can. White Oaks GC in Hillsdale, MI was built in 1965 as a 9 hole Links layout is one of these courses. Re-Purchased in 1995 it was re-designed by Rick Price and built by Bernard Smith into a 6,162yd / Par 35/36 18 hole layout in 2001. The first four (4) holes having two (2) 422+ yd par 4's and a 232yd par 3 will get your attention quickly. Fairways mowed tight, being full bent grass with the complete rough mowed and some water damage to the low areas. Would have liked to see more fairway/hole separation by leaving longer grass on some of the back 9 open holes. This would give a more challenging look (50 - 100yd forced carries also needed) and add some beauty to the open layout. Rick & Teresa are making the needed ongoing changes/improvements that make this a local favorite with conditions to match. Enjoyed shooting 39/40 w/33 putts during my nice 2hr loop with weather to match. Could use some better directions to #8 Tee and #16 Blue Tee box and yardages blocks on the Par 3's would be nice. Worth stopping in and meeting some great local owners and watching this 18 hole track improve.
Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
