Decided to start playing "Home Grown" local owned courses within 1 hr of home when I can. White Oaks GC in Hillsdale built in1965 as an original 9 hole Links layout is one of these. Re-Purchased in 1995 it was re-designed by Rick Price and built by Bernard Smith into a 18 hole 6,162yd / Par 35/36 in 2001. The first four (4) holes having two 422 yd+ par 4's and a 232yd par3 will get your attention quickly. Fairways were mowed tight, being full grass and the rough was mowed to 3 inches with some water damage in the lower areas. Letting some grass grow long to separate side by side fairways (back 9) would give a more visual separated look. Also leaving tall grass the first 100 yards off the tee will make one focused on his game more and a more challenging look. Rick & Teresa are making the needed ongoing changes/improvements to make this a local favorite with conditions to match, once the spring rains lighten up. Enjoyed shooting 39/40 w/33 putts making this a nice 2hr loop with weather to match. Could use some signs directing new players to the next holes as #8 and #16 Blue boxes come to mind. Look forward to returning when the wet drainage areas dry up and yardage blocks added to the par 3's, taking out the guess work. Worth stopping in and seeing a great local designed layout keep getting better.
Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area
