Traveling on I-70 heading home when we stopped for gas and saw the sign for "Zanesville Jaycees GC" so we decided to check it out. Even though they have had a lot of rain they had carts available and told us to use cart paths (good shape) and keep to the high side of the fairways when we leave the path. The score card has four (4) tees listed White @ 5,786yds / 67.2 / 121, Gold @ 5,269yds / 65.3 / 109, Black @ 4,166yds / 61.3 / 99 and Red @ 4,982yds / 65.0 / 106 for this rolling, treelined Par 35/36 layout. I know they advertise Blue's @ 6,261yds but there were tee boxes behind the White markers not being used. I know its still early in the season and for $26 18/cart, I'm not going to complain. The Front 9 at 2,776yds is back in forth but with the scattered trees, lining the fairways, leading up to the mostly small round greens, added a little more challenge. The #2 Par 4 at 366yds has a real tight tee chute to the fairway for its Hcp 4 rating. The #4 @ 288yds Par 4 has the green tucked into the RH side of the treelined fairway so 210yd drive is great. The #6 Par 5 at 500yds is the longest hole and is just treelined narrow to a small elevated green. The #9 Par 4 at 322yds has water in front of tee and a uphill climb to the green. The Back 9 is longer at 3,010yds but has hidden streams connecting the ponds (4) so watch your yardages to carry these. The #10 Par 4 at 363yds starts down hill, creek crossing at 180yds to a uphill green. The #11 333yd Par 4 has a big tree (LH side) with a creek in front of the green so a 230yd cut drive would be great here. The #14 Par 4 @ 298yds is the hole shown on the above insert. The #13 Par 4 at 393yds is their Hcp 1 hole because of very narrow fairway and small round green. The #16 Par 5 at 490yds sweeps left and has two (2) hidden creek crossings and finishes uphill on this Hcp 3 hole. The #18 Par 5 @ 463yds has a 180yd forced carry but has a hidden creek at 250yds out, uphill finishing Hcp 7 hole with a pond on the RH side of green. Enjoyed the 2.5hr round shooting 38/38 w/32putts on this damp but very nice layout designed by some local men in 1949, living their Dream.
Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
Price, Pace of Play, Staff, Layout, No Houses on Course
