I finally made it to this legendary public golf course with its impressive views of Green Bay from the Western side of the Door County Peninsula. Unfortunately, I had to accept a twilight tee time which limited my visit to nine holes.
The grounds were beautifully maintained and the fairways were excellent. I did get to play the signature par 3 hole nicknamed "The Drop." From the 8th tee, you need to hit a soft wedge off of a steep cliff and drop your golf ball on to the putting green below. I made the green, but failed on my birdie attempt which missed the edge of the cup and rolled too far for an easy par putt.
The golf course is expensive (I paid the holiday rate), but it is definitely worth it. The turf is exceptional in the fairways. The tees are good too. My only negative experiences were the tourist golfers who did not keep pace or those who failed to rake their sand traps.
Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
