This probably the closest you will get to a true links course in Texas, or for that matter in the U.S., with the exception of those in Bandon. I never had a bad lie in the fairways, and like links courses you are in fairways or bad rough, but the fairways are wide. They have to be with the wind in the area. But as the Scots say nay wind nay golf. The course would be a touch easy without the wind. If you get a chance to play Newport, do so.
