In the area for a reunion, played as a walk-on single, and got paired with 3 long-time residents, who helped immensely with shot lines, and green readings.
Course is the newer of the two at USAFA, and is a jewel. No houses, only one hole with an adjacent road, and all 18 are unique. Excellent layout, and walkable by most.
Conditions were excellent. Fairways were well-grassed, with no bare spots. Rough is reasonable, bunkers were in good shape, tee boxes were level and not filled with divots (pretty good for this late in the season). But the crowning glory of this course is the greens. They are large, contoured, sloped, and FAST. I had 33 putts, and had it not been for my playing partners telling me of the subtleties, it could have been 45. Very challenging, but really fun!
Staff I encountered were professional, welcoming, and very competent. A good group.
I highly recommend.
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
