Played here 5-27-14 as a practice round for the Retired Military Golf Classic, where one of the four rounds will be played at Pine Lakes for the first time.
I've been coming to MB for 25 years, and have played about 50 courses here (some of which are now closed), but somehow never got to Pine Lakes: an egregious oversight on my part. Course is an outstanding example of the best in MB golf. I really liked it: challenging, but fair to players of all levels. Lots of everything except elevation change...but it is coastal Carolina! Design is memorable, with no two holes alike, and no houses anywhere in sight. Fairways are generously contoured, with some slopes and mounding. Bunkers are plentiful, and artfully placed. Greens are fairly large, and not oppresively sloped/contoured, although many have sharp drops just off the putting surface.
Conditions today were excellent: fairways were in great shape, the bunkers were firm, and the greens were moderately fast. Staff was uniformly excellent: courteous and attentive without being pushy.
Overall, a very positive golf experience: I highly recommend!
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
Condition of Course, Price, Ambiance, No Houses on Course, Pace of Play, Staff, Clubhouse, Pro Shop
