$41 (cart included), played on Friday, March 2014 at 10am

Our group of travelling seniors played here 3-14-14 as part of a getaway from the hostile north. Paid $45 with the Tee Time book, which is a fair price for the Yorktown course (Jamestown was closed for aeration and maintenance).

Pro shop guy did not start us off with a good impression: he was, at best, indifferent. Starter, on the other hand, was very cordial, and brightened the mood considerably. Similarly, the young lady in the bar/restaurant was very professional and positive.

Course itself is pretty nice, but nothing exceptional in my view, considering the area, which abounds in extraordinary courses, like the Golden Horseshoe pair, Colonial Heritage, or even the Traditions family of layouts. Design is straightforward, fairly flat with some rolling terrain, but no big hills. A previous rater commented on the lack of hole diagrams either on the scorecard or at the tee box: I second that, seems like a ploy to sell yardage books, and they are needed if you're a newbie, as our group was. There are houses along some fairways, and they're pretty close on a couple of holes, which detracts from the exclusive "feel" of the course. Fairways are generally receptive, and wide enough for the most part. Bunkers are plentiful, but not especially intrusive as they are on some other courses in the area, and they were well-maintained and playable. Greens are largish, and they were outstanding the day we played: quick and true, with minimal bumpiness, which is unusual for this time of year. Because of distances between holes, I'd say the course is not walkable.

Overall, a nice course, and one worth a look.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
