I submitted this ranking two years ago on another golf web site. I just discovered www.GolfCourseRanking.com. Very nice. I am reposting this ranking from two years ago as I see no one else has yet provided feedback on Hasentree Club.

I was able to play The Hasentree Club golf course towards the end of October 2009 on an excellent weather day. The course was only about two years old and was designed by Tom Fazio and is a par 71. They distinguish between tee boxes by numbers and those numbers /yards / rating / slope are:

Tee 1: par-71, 7,074 yards, 73.9 / 139

Tee 2: par-71, 6,702 yards, 72.1 / 131

Tee 3: par-71, 6,318 yards, 70.2 / 124

Tee 4: par-71, 5,720 yards, 67.0 / 119

Tee 5: par-71, 5,166 yards, 64.2 / 112

The Pros are: 1. Just a super super staff. They were as friendly as they could be right from the moment I arrived and took great care in showing me around. This was especially nice as they knew I was not there to buy real estate or join the club as I was able to play in the first place because my club in Greensboro was under renovation and we are able to play there by a reciprocal aggreement. 2. Great practice facilites 3. The course was in great shape and they have the fastest greens I have ever played on. The pro told me right away they were rolling around a 12 on the stimpmeter and they were really fast.

The cons are (and these are nit picky): 1. I would have given 4.5 or 5 stars for amenities but Hasentree does not have a Clubhouse built so there is no locker room or shower facility close by. They have just been in bankruptcy so maybe this will get fixed down the line but I am sure that they have bigger things to worry about now. 2. I know they like being environmentally friendly and not building the course by any of the water features but there is not a single drop of water that comes into play on the course. I feel like they miss out on some hole locations and design/challenge features by not taking advantage of that. 3. While the bunkers are very pretty the grass around the bunkers is so long and gnarly that unless you fly your ball into the bunker it is not going to roll into it at all. You would really rather be in the bunker then in the grass on the edges but I guess this is just another form or a hazard so you should stay away. 4. I would have liked a combo tee with a yardage more around 6,500. Tee 2 is too long on a couple of the par 4s to be enjoyable and Tee 3 makes other holes too short. The slope ratings are pretty low though so maybe I should have just played from the tee 2 boxes, but I am a 9.3 handicap and wanted to enjoy my round there for the par 71.

Hasentree is a very pretty course though in great shape with only a handfull of houses on the course. I hope they are able to make it out of their financial problems and keep membership growth going well. I would certainly play there again and I shot an 83 from tee box 3.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area
