I was a lucky one. I got to play Yocha Dehe for free. It was a great experience. You come over a hill and your first view of the course is breathtaking. When you stand on the deck near the proshop, the view is even better.

The course layout is interesting and fun. The first hole is off a mountain and I hit a 290 yard drive (that has never happened before). Lots of water, sand, moguls and grass bunkers but they were not placed where they hurt you if you hit a decent shot. Almost all of the holes have contour and bend, not many flat and straight holes.

The only negatives would be the greens and the pace of play. The greens are in good condition but there were a lot of spike marks around the holes that needed to be cleaned up before putting. However, the greens were still in better conditions than most courses in Sacramento. For pace of play, it took our group 4:45 to play 18 holes, which I understood is fairly common. We were waiting for the group ahead of us on most holes.

If you have a chance to play Yocha Dehe, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
