I'm not sure where you go in Wausau for GOLF golf, but Rib Mountain is nice if you're in the area with a couple of hours to kill and want to get in a few "practice" type holes. It's a walkable 9 hole course, par 32, and the greens were in really good shape. Forget the driving range; it's basically a pasture across the street, and the range balls are....well, just forget the driving range -- if you want to work on your game, just play the course. You'll get to hit just about any shot you want, and you can take along a junior golfer or less skilled golfer who you normally wouldn't take to an 18-hole, par 72 setup.
